Objectives: Provides leadership and technical support to encourage potential entrepreneurs at the university level and facilitates students putting entrepreneurship principles into practice, through an integrated learning experience. Facilitates linkages between budding entrepreneurs, private sector mentors, and financiers. Features:

  • Local Universities host internal competitions from which the top three (3) teams from these competitions compete in the NBMC for cash prizes.
  • The winner of the NBMC then competes at the International Business Model Competition (IBMC), where they compete against over 40 other international University student teams.

Provides financing to access specific business development services needed to enhance the business as well improve their ability to access credit from Approved Financial Institutions

  • A business must be registered with the Companies Office of Jamaica to qualify for a voucher or to benefit from any other DBJ product.
  • Businesses are eligible for a maximum of two vouchers within a two year period.
  • DBJ covers 70% of the cost of specific services offered under the VTA programme.

Innovation Grant from New Ideas to Entrepreneurship (IGNITE)
Fosters entrepreneurship innovation and support for the creation and growth of new firms in the productive sectors from Startup to Growth stage within two (2) years.

  • This project was developed to foster entrepreneurship innovation and support for the creation and growth of new firms in productive sectors among MSMEs, from Startup to growth stage
  • The program provides grant funds up to $4million or 70% of the project cost.
  • The business must be registered with the Companies Office of Jamaica to be able to apply.
  • The business must be able to demonstrate its innovativeness to qualify
  • The business must have a viable business model and growth potential
  • The business must be able to employ at least 2 persons within the next 2 years

Capacity Development Grant
A grant that facilitates the funding of capacity development projects for SME support, new sector and export development, institutional strengthening for MSME intermediaries and Social Enterprises.

A series of workshops on improving the financial knowledge of MSMEs and encouraging confidence in the formal banking system as well as confidence in technology driven financial services such as mobile money and other electronic retail payment services.

  • The programme is designed to improve the financial knowledge of MSMEs, encourage confidence in the formal banking system and facilitate understanding and trust in technology driven financial services such as mobile money and other Electronic Retail Payment Services (ERPS).
  • Must be a micro business owner
